Nature Domain spells for clerics
Table of Contents
Level 1
Animal Friendship(page)
Enchantment, level 1 spell typically available to bards, druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: 30 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material (a morsel of food)
- Duration: 24 hours
This spell lets you convince a beast that you mean it no harm. Choose a beast that you can see within range. It must see and hear you. If the beast's Intelligence is 4 or higher, the spell fails. Otherwise, the beast must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for the spell's duration. If you or one of your companions harms the target, the spell ends.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can affect one additional beast for each slot level above 1st.
Speak with Animals(page)
Divination, level 1 spell typically available to bards, druids, rangers (ritual)
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: Self
- Components: Verbal, Somatic
- Duration: 10 minutes
You gain the ability to comprehend and verbally communicate with beasts for the duration. The knowledge and awareness of many beasts is limited by their intelligence, but at minimum, beasts can give you information about nearby locations and monsters, including whatever they can perceive or have perceived within the past day. You might be able to persuade a beast to perform a small favor for you, at the DM's discretion.
Level 2
Barkskin(page)
Transmutation, level 2 spell typically available to druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: Touch
- Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material (a handful of oak bark)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour
You touch a willing creature. Until the spell ends, the target's skin has a rough, bark-like appearance, and the target's AC can't be less than 16, regardless of what kind of armor it is wearing.
Spike Growth(page)
Transmutation, level 2 spell typically available to druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: 150 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material (seven sharp thorns or seven small twigs, each sharpened to a point)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
The ground in a 20-foot radius centered on a point within range twists and sprouts hard spikes and thorns. The area becomes difficult terrain for the duration. When a creature moves into or within the area, it takes 2d4 piercing damage for every 5 feet it travels. The transformation of the ground is camouflaged to look natural. Any creature that can't see the area at the time the spell is cast must make a Wisdom (Perception) check against your spell save DC to recognize the terrain as hazardous before entering it.
Level 3
Plant Growth(page)
Transmutation, level 3 spell typically available to bards, druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 action or 8 hours
- Range: 150 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic
- Duration: Instantaneous
This spell channels vitality into plants within a specific area. There are two possible uses for the spell, granting either immediate or long-term benefits.
If you cast this spell using 1 action, choose a point within range. All normal plants in a 100-foot radius centered on that point become thick and overgrown. A creature moving through the area must spend 4 feet of movement for every 1 foot it moves.
You can exclude one or more areas of any size within the spell's area from being affected.
If you cast this spell over 8 hours, you enrich the land. All plants in a half-mile radius centered on a point within range become enriched for 1 year. The plants yield twice the normal amount of food when harvested.
Wind Wall(page)
Evocation, level 3 spell typically available to druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: 120 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material (a tiny fan and a feather of exotic origin)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
A wall of strong wind rises from the ground at a point you choose within range. You can make the wall up to 50 feet long, 15 feet high, and 1 foot thick. You can shape the wall in any way you choose so long as it makes one continuous path along the ground. The wall lasts for the duration.
When the wall appears, each creature within its area must make a Strength saving throw. A creature takes 3d8 bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
- The strong wind keeps fog, smoke, and other gases at bay.
- Small or smaller flying creatures or objects can't pass through the wall.
- Loose, lightweight materials brought into the wall fly upward.
- Arrows, bolts, and other ordinary projectiles launched at targets behind the wall are deflected upward and automatically miss. (Boulders hurled by giants or siege engines, and similar projectiles, are unaffected.)
- Creatures in gaseous form can't pass through it.
Level 4
Dominate Beast(page)
Enchantment, level 4 spell typically available to druids, sorcerers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: 60 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You attempt to beguile a beast that you can see within range. It must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for the duration. If you or creatures that are friendly to you are fighting it, it has advantage on the saving throw.
While the beast is charmed, you have a telepathic link with it as long as the two of you are on the same plane of existence. You can use this telepathic link to issue commands to the creature while you are conscious (no action required), which it does its best to obey. You can specify a simple and general course of action, such as "Attack that creature," "Run over there," or "Fetch that object." If the creature completes the order and doesn't receive further direction from you, it defends and preserves itself to the best of its ability.
You can use your action to take total and precise control of the target. Until the end of your next turn, the creature takes only the actions you choose, and doesn't do anything that you don't allow it to do. During this time, you can also cause the creature to use a reaction, but this requires you to use your own reaction as well.
Each time the target takes damage, it makes a new Wisdom saving throw against the spell. If the saving throw succeeds, the spell ends.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell with a 5th-level spell slot, the duration is concentration, up to 10 minutes. When you use a 6th-level spell slot, the duration is concentration, up to 1 hour. When you use a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the duration is concentration, up to 8 hours.
Grasping Vine(page)
Conjuration, level 4 spell typically available to druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 bonus action
- Range: 30 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You conjure a vine that sprouts from the ground in an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within range. When you cast this spell, you can direct the vine to lash out at a creature within 30 feet of it that you can see. That creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be pulled 20 feet directly toward the vine.
Until the spell ends, you can direct the vine to lash out at the same creature or another one as a bonus action on each of your turns.
Level 5
Insect Plague(page)
Conjuration, level 5 spell typically available to clerics, druids, sorcerers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: 300 feet
- Components: Verbal, Somatic, Material (a few grains of sugar, some kernels of grain, and a smear of fat)
- Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes
Swarming, biting locusts fill a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range. The sphere spreads around corners. The sphere remains for the duration, and its area is lightly obscured. The sphere's area is difficult terrain.
When the area appears, each creature in it must make a Constitution saving throw. A creature takes 4d10 piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. A creature must also make this saving throw when it enters the spell's area for the first time on a turn or ends its turn there.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 5th.
Tree Stride(page)
Conjuration, level 5 spell typically available to druids, rangers
- Casting time: 1 action
- Range: Self
- Components: Verbal, Somatic
- Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
You gain the ability to enter a tree and move from inside it to inside another tree of the same kind within 500 feet. Both trees must be living and at least the same size as you. You must use 5 feet of movement to enter a tree. You instantly know the location of all other trees of the same kind within 500 feet and, as part of the move used to enter the tree, can either pass into one of those trees or step out of the tree you're in. You appear in a spot of your choice within 5 feet of the destination tree, using another 5 feet of movement. If you have no movement left, you appear within 5 feet of the tree you entered.
You can use this transportation ability once per round for the duration. You must end each turn outside a tree.
